On I-81 in the County of Montgomery from mile marker 125 to mile marker 121, motorists can expect potential delays in this area from 05/16/13 at 4:54 AM until 11/29/13 at 4:54 AM due to maintenance activities. The north left shoulder and right shoulder are closed. The south left shoulder and right shoulder are closed. Due to the ongoing road construction project to build truck climbing lane on southbound I-81 in Montgomery County between mile markers 120 and 125 the following traffic impacts are scheduled. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers. The speed limit in the work zone has been reduced to 55 mph. The Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013. Southbound detours will be in place Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29, beginning at 9 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg). Beginning Wednesday morning, May 29, a new traffic pattern will be in place between mile markers 120 and 124. Drivers will be moved to the new truck climbing lane and right shoulder so crews can improve the original lanes. All work schedules are based on weather conditions and can be changed.
